LEESBURG — The bodies of two Leesburg residents who were found dead Wednesday afternoon have been identified by authorities as those of a mother and her young son.

According to Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Special Agent in Charge Danny Jackson, 24- year-old Sarah Alling and her 7-year-old son son Jabari Alling, both appear to have died of gunshot wounds, but the exact cause of death is not known.

“That’s what we believed happened, but the autopsy is not complete,” Jackson said. “We’re continuing to process the scene and trying to determine what happened and why.”

Jackson said the bodies were found around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday when Sarah Alling’s sister checked on the mother and her son, after having not heard from them for a few days.

The sister, who had a spare key, entered her sister’s duplex apartment at 124C Kinchafoonee Drive to check on them, and after finding the bodies immediately contacted 911, Jackson said.

Leesburg Police were the first to respond to the call before turning the case over to the GBI.

Jackson said the case is still in its early stages and that reports labeling the case as a murder-suicide investigation are inaccurate.

“We work death investigations,” said Jackson. “We let the evidence tell us what happened. We’re looking into all aspects and all possibilities.”

The results of the autopsies, which were under way Wednesday at the state crime lab in Macon, are not expected to be available for some time, Jackson said.

He added that it appears Alling and her son were the only residents of the home, which is owned by the Lee County Housing Authority, and that investigators will continue interviewing friends and neighbors as they piece together what happened.
