Car runs off roadway approaching Broad Avenue Bridge

ALBANY — The Albany Fire Department, Albany Police Department and Dougherty EMS responded to a single-vehicle accident at approximately 12:30 Sunday afternoon at the Broad Avenue Bridge.
Julian McGill, 31, told police that, as he approached the bridge from the east side of the river, the steering wheel of his Toyota Camry locked up. He ran off the road, and his vehicle flipped, overturned and slid down onto the rip-rap (large stones used as erosion control) on the east bank of the bridge.
He was trapped in his vehicle and had to be extracted via the jaws of life by the fire department. McGill was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Police said McGill will be charged with failure to maintain lane.
On Saturday, APD responded to a late-night armed robbery at Flash Foods on 2825 Old Dawson Road.
At 11:20 p.m., an unknown black male entered the store and pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk opened the register, and the suspect jumped the counter and took an undetermined amount of cash. The incident remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
