Dougherty County Coroner confirms Albany flu death
Albany woman third flu related death in Georgia this season

ALBANY — Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler confirmed Albany’s first flu-related death of 2017 on Friday.
“The victim was Laura Youman a 73-year old black female,” said Fowler.
According to Fowler, Youman, a resident of PruittHealth-Palmyra nursing home on Palmyra Road was admitted to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with flu symptoms on Friday and died at 1:07 pm.
“It is my understanding that about 10 other residents have tested positive for the flu,” said Fowler. “They have quarantined the whole floor.”
The Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH) reported the first flu death of 2017 in the state on January 10. Youman is the third flu related death this season.
According to GDPH, along with the three deaths, there have also been 332 hospitalizations due to influenza infection so far this this season.
