ALBANY — Shift reports from the Dougherty County Police Department show DCP officers were called to a shooting incident Friday and found themselves being shot at.

The incident, labeled in the shift report as an aggravated assault on police officers, took place at 10:43 p.m. Friday at 805 Westview Drive. Dispatch reported that someone called in stating someone was shooting at his house and he was shooting at them and needed the police, the report said.

The report said that when officers arrived on scene, the caller began shooting at the police. The offender was barricaded in his residence, and SWAT was called to assist. DCP officers and SWAT officers attempted to negotiate for the offender to come out with no success. A search warrant was taken for the residence, SWAT gained entry to the house and detained the offender, the report said.

David Flick, a detective with DCP, identified the caller as Billy Joe Harrell, 52.

The report said there was no evidence of any other suspects shooting at Harrell’s residence. Detectives charged him with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. Flick said more charges are pending against Harrell and that there were no injuries as a result of the incident.
