ALBANY — Fishing and a film are two of the activities on tap for Saturday in Albany.

At 8 a.m. Saturday, Cops and Bobbers, a free kids fishing event, will be conducted by the Crime Prevention Unit of the Albany Police Department.

The event, which concludes at noon, includes free prizes and food and will be held at Ken Gardens Pond, which is located at 1509 Ken Gardens Road.

Participants who are 16 or older must have a Georgia fishing license, and all kids who participate must have adult supervision. Participants also should bring their own fishing equipment and bait. Lawn chairs also are recommended.

Kids who want to get out of town with their parents for the morning can participate in Youth Fishing Day, which starts at 9 a.m. Saturday near Lake Walter F. George. Conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, registration opens at 8 a.m. for the event at Children’s Mayhaw Pond, 2 miles north of Fort Gaines. It also concludes at noon.

Participants at the Fort Gaines event must be under 16 and should bring bait, fishing equipment, fishing tackle, a bucket for fish and a chair. The Corps of Engineers office can be reached at (229) 768-2516.

After the fish fry, kids might want to get their parents to bring them back to downtown Albany for Movies in the Park at Riverfront Park on South Front Street. Saturday’s showing on the big outdoor screen will be “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

The movie will start at sundown (about 8:45 p.m.), and concessions are available. Instead of fishing poles, organizers of this Saturday event are encouraging movie-goers to bring their light sabers.

For information on the Movies in the Park event, contact the downtown Albany manager’s office at (229) 483-7665.
