New Albany signs a waste of money

Page Two can’t seem to get the fascination with bling, especially when it comes to throwing tax dollars away. First, it was the arch, which looks like it came from a cheap erector set. I forget the final cost, but I think it was in excess of half-million dollars.
Now come the signs at the edge of town telling the world what city this is. Again, my memory is slack, but I believe there was a grant for just under $600,000 with the city or county to come up with another $250,000, plus or minus a few thousand.
And what is the purpose of this? I don’t think anyone from Topeka, Greenville or Las Vegas is going to come to town just to see these signs and have their picture taken standing beside them. How much good that money could have done by building a bridge over the Flint at the end of Blaylock, easing traffic flow into the city from Jefferson Street. And aren’t there signs at the edge of town telling people what city this is?
Since our leaders had the great foresight to keep a very profitable interstate from coming through town, I’m pretty much sure anyone who comes here knows where they are. But wait, it could be millions of people out there who would love to see our aquarium, have poor eyesight and can’t read the little signs. See, there’s the silver lining.
More Later from Page Two.
