ALBANY — The Northwood Drive home of Debra and Glen Phelps has been selected as the April Yard of the Month by the Daffodil Garden Club.
“This is a great yard with lots going on,” Marideane Maxwell, who chairs the club’s selection committee, said of the Phelps home at 1802 Northwood Drive. “You will need to drive by and view the yard from the front …. and then down the paved alley and view the back.

“You can’t miss it as it is outstanding and there is a sign in the front, as well as in the back.”
The Phelpses have lived at the address for more than 30 years “and take great pride in maintaining the house and yard,” Maxwell said.
“They are the workers who are constantly striving for just the right look,” she said, “so when you ride by, you just might see them changing a flower bed or adding a new feature.”
Maxwell said a small glass greenhouse in the back yard had just been added, utilizing windows that had been replaced in the Phelpses’ home.
And while their home was the choice for April, she said, “I believe you will find something of interest, no matter what month you choose to ride by — azaleas, Confederate jasmine, iris clematis, and a row of outstanding snowball trees that are in full bloom, just to point out a few things of interest.”
The Daffodil Garden Club each month recognizes a well-kept yard and home in the Albany area, with club members saying they hope the monthly recognition inspires others to spruce up their own homes. The club also encourages members of the public to call in suggestions for the honor. “We will be happy to receive a call to check out a yard that you like,” Maxwell said, adding individuals can call (229) 436-6888 and leave a message about a nomination.
The club meets at 11 a.m. on the third Tuesday of the month from September through May at the Garden Center, 805 Fifth Ave. The facility also is available for rent for special gatherings. The club’s next meeting is scheduled for April 21.
