PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Pelham girls improve to 3-0 on season

PELHAM — Pelham High School made it two straight over Class AAAAAA opponents in as many days. The Lady Hornets pounded Valdosta 78-57 Friday night, then ripped Valdosta’s arch-rival in Lowndes Saturday night 76-48 to improve to 3-0 on the season.

“We’ve got to play tough teams in the highest class so we can improve as a team,” Pelham girls coach Antonia Tookes said.

In the Lowndes victory, Herald Super 6er Briunna Freeman led the way with 24 points, while Destiny Thomas and Mahogany Brown added 12 points each. Shamiya Davis added 10.

In Friday night’s late victory over Valdosta, the Lady Hornets were led by Freeman again with 24 points. Timbreanna Hudson and Thomas each finished with 13 points, while Quadranique Franklin added nine points.

RANDOLPH-CLAY GIRLS 37, QUITMAN COUNTY 35: Randolph-Clay remained undefeated with a nail-biting victory over Quitman County. Herald Super 6er Kobi Thornton led the way with 18 points, while Caquetta Harvey finished with 14 as the Lady Red Devils improved to 4-0.

BAINBRIDGE GIRLS 79, DOUGHERTY 51: Patra Parris helped Bainbridge stay undefeated with a victory over visiting Dougherty. Parris finished with 16 points, while Alex Carter chipped in 15. Asia Gordon added 14 and Alexis Russ tossed in 10 points for the Lady Bearcats.

Takiya Davis led Dougherty with 20 points, while Shykeria Williams finished with 13.

SHERWOOD CHRISTIAN GIRLS 50, JOHN HANCOCK 44: Sherwood Christian improved to 5-0 with its third win of the Central Fellowship Christian Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Macon. The Lady Eagles won the tournament title and had three team members selected to the all-tournament team — Madison Walker, Key’yada Thomas and Bailey McDonald.

Walker led the team with 14 points against Hohn Hancock, while Michaela Hudson added 13.

DEERFIELD-WINDSOR GIRLS 42, FREDERICA 24: Kelsey King scored 17 points and Teasie Williams added 11 to help the Lady Knights top Frederica at Bulloch Academy.

Deerfield-Windsor will travel to Dasher to play Georgia Christian on Tuesday night.

DEERFIELD-WINDSOR BOYS 70, FREDERICA 40: After a pair of two-point losses to open the season, Deerfield-Windsor won its first game of the season, pounding Frederica at Bulloch Academy in Statesboro.

Christian Wallace led the Knights (1-2) with 19 points, while Chandler Matthews added 15. Ryan Toole and Ethan Shellhaas scored 10 points each.

SHERWOOD CHRISTIAN BOYS 93, TWIGGS ACADEMY 56: Seth King scored 21 points and Juwan Henderson added 19 to help the Eagles defeat Twiggs Academy and advance to the championship game of the Central Fellowship Christian Tournament early on Saturday.

Sammy Smith added 11 points in the victory.

CENTRAL FELLOWSHIP BOYS 68, SHERWOOD CHRISTIAN 51: Sherwood lost to home-standing Central Fellowship in the finals of the CFCA Tournament Saturday night.

Greg Elder led the way for the Eagles, finishing with 12 points. Chaz Griffin added 11 and Henderson added 10 for Sherwood who fell to 3-2 on the season.

BAINBRIDGE BOYS 74, DOUGHERTY 50: Bainbridge pulled away late to pound visiting Dougherty. The Bearcats (3-0) were led by Herald Super 6er Tyree Crump’s 19 points, but it may have been Trevon Shaw who did the most damage. Shaw finished with 18 points but pulled down 10 rebounds.

David Quimbly led Dougherty with 28 points.

RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS 81, QUITMAN COUNTY 71: Herald Super 6er Gary McCrae led the Red Devils with 19 points as Randolph-Clay stayed undefeated with a victory over Quitman County. Keyshawn Baker added 17 and Cody Brown finished with 15.

CALHOUN COUNTY BOYS 68, EARLY COUNTY 60: Calhoun County outslugged Early County in a nonregion game. The Cougars were led by Reginald Ross’ 32 points. Sherrod Williams added 11 points, Jacoby Cratic had 10 and Herald Super 6er Quenten Taylor finished with nine.

Qubalah Hall led the Bobcats with 25 points, while Malik Thornton and Tracy Beachmon scored eight points each.

AMERICUS-SUMTER BOYS 59, MACON COUNTY 43: Americus-Sumter improved to 4-0 on the season with a victory over Macon County. The Panthers were led by Juwan High’s 17 points. Dwight Harris added 16 points, while Adam King finished with nine.

Late Friday

BULLOCH ACADEMY GIRLS 60, DEERFIELD-WINDSOR 37: Defending state champion Bulloch Academy pulled away in the second quarter to top Deerfield-Windsor in Statesboro.

The Lady Knights were led by Williams who finished with eight points.
