ARPD announces youth football and cheerleading registration

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department announces its registration for Youth Football and Cheerleading. The fee is $45 per player for football and $35 for cheerleading. Youth ages 6-12 are eligible to participate; the age control date is August 1, 2015.

The child must be present at registration and a birth certificate and proof of residency are required for registration. The registration period continues through August 26 (Monday through Thursday only from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm).

Interested participants can register at the Albany Recreation and Parks Office at 1301 N. Monroe St., Thornton Community Center at 210 Thornton Drive or the Carver Sports Complex at 1023 S. McKinley St.

All properly registered youth will be guaranteed placement on a team. Any registration after August 26th will be on a first-come basis and only as team size and registration limits permit.

Football participants will need to furnish their own helmets (NOCSAE approved), pants with pads and shoes. The Recreation and Parks Department will issue game jerseys. Shoulder pads will be distributed but will need to be returned at the end of the season.

Cheerleading participants are required to furnish their own shoes and shorts. The ARPD will issue a team T-shirt and pom-poms. Practice is scheduled to begin September 1 with the season opening the week of September 14.

ARPD holding Fall Co-ed Softball registration

The Albany Recreation and Parks Department is holding registration for the 2015 Adult Fall Co-ed Softball League. Registration continues through September 8. The fee is $350 per team, and no entry will be allowed without payment. Ten regular season games will be played at the Gordon Sports Complex beginning Sept. 21 along with a single elimination end-of-season tournament. Teams must have a minimum of four women.

Registration will be held at the Recreation and Parks Administrative Office located at 1301 North Monroe St. (in Tift Park). The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. YMCA holding registration for youth soccer

Registration will be held until Aug. 16 for YMCA Soccer at the Albany YMCA. The Y is offering Youth Soccer for ages 4-12 and Itty Bitty Soccer for ages 2 and 3. Register at the YMCA Central Facility or Lee Branch YMCA.

Registration fees for Youth Soccer are $75 for YMCA members and $90 for non-members. Itty Bitty Soccer is a parent-involved activity that introduces the sport to pre-schoolers in a fun atmosphere. Registration fees for Itty Bitty Soccer are $50 for YMCA members and $65 for non-members.

For both Youth Soccer and Itty Bitty Soccer, parents can register their child for either Albany or Lee County teams. Albany teams practice at the YMCA Sports Park, 4508 Gillionville Road. Lee County teams practice at the Lee Branch YMCA, 316 Robert B. Lee Drive in Leesburg.
