Worth County’s Laurie Pritchard no-hits Colquitt County

SYLVESTER — At this point, scoring against Worth County has become an accomplishment.

Getting a hit Thursday was impossible.

Laurie Pritchard fired a complete-game no-hitter as the Lady Rams blanked Colquitt County 8-0, extending one of the most dominant stretches of softball in Southwest Georgia.

Worth County has won eight consecutive games, improved to 17-1 and recorded five straight shutouts. Even more remarkable, the Lady Rams have allowed runs in only four of their 18 games this season.

“We are playing good softball right now,” Worth County coach Zach Mauldin said. “These girls are playing together and playing with a lot of confidence.”

Pritchard was nearly untouchable Thursday. She allowed no hits over six innings, struck out seven and walked just one while Worth County’s offense backed her with 11 hits.

The Lady Rams struck immediately when Ellasyn Gandy delivered a two-run single in the first inning.

They put the game away with a five-run fifth.

Pritchard helped her own cause with a two-run double, Kayelee Mathews added an RBI single, Ansley Bartley brought home a run with a sacrifice fly and Kamryn Kendrick drove in another with a single.

Mathews, Pritchard, Isabelle Hancock and Gandy finished with two hits apiece. Mathews, Pritchard and Gandy each drove in two runs.

Worth County was just as clean defensively, committing no errors behind Pritchard.

Now comes a game the Lady Rams have had circled.

Worth County hosts Cook on Wednesday in a rematch with the only team to beat the Lady Rams this season.
