Deerfield-Windsor remains unbeaten with win over Terrell Academy

DAWSON — Deerfield-Windsor stayed perfect on the season Friday night, blanking Terrell Academy 34-0 on the road behind a smothering defense and a big night from quarterback Lane Sceals.

The Knights (5-0) stormed out to a 27-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Sceals accounted for four touchdowns, throwing three and running for another, while completing 13 of 24 passes for 178 yards with no interceptions.

Deerfield-Windsor struck quickly on its opening possession when David Hutchinson hauled in a 47-yard touchdown pass from Sceals. Kicker Witt Rushton, who went 4-for-5 on extra points, added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.

After the Knights’ defense forced a series of punts, Sceals capped a second-quarter drive with a 2-yard keeper. He then connected with Mangham Pippin for a touchdown pass to make it 20-0 and later hit Gabe Daniel for a scoring strike with 1:13 left before halftime.

Terrell Academy, 0-1in region play, showed fight early, with defensive stops from Dylan Harden and Lex Bryant keeping the Eagles close in the first quarter, but penalties and miscues stalled their offense throughout the night.

Deerfield-Windsor’s defense took over in the second half. Grier Morey intercepted two passes, including a 75-yard pick-six in the third quarter that punctuated the shutout. Seth McKenzie and Pippin also combined for a key sack during the second half, part of a relentless defensive effort that never allowed Terrell Academy to find rhythm.

With the win, the Knights not only preserved their unbeaten start but also extended a dominant streak in which their defense has given up just 20 points in the past three games.
