LEESBURG — He made it official Wednesday. As top recruits across the country announced their college choices, Lee County defensive back Lasiah Jackson stayed true to his August commitment and signed to continue his football career at Stanford University.

Jackson, a four-star prospect, is rated the No. 15 safety in the nation and the No. 16 overall recruit in Georgia. His decision sends one of the state’s premier defensive backs to the West Coast, where he’ll join a program as well known for academic excellence as it is for its football pedigree.

“Honestly, I just can’t wait to get out there,” Jackson said after the signing ceremony in the Lee County High School cafeteria. “The weather, the people — just everything out in California is what I’m looking forward to.”

He added that he expects to receive a workout plan soon from Stanford’s coaching staff to ensure he’s ready to compete when he arrives on campus. Jackson plans to major in civil engineering.

He is the son of Techelle Matthew and Lawrence Jackson.
