ALBANY — The Albany Police Department is investigating reports that came in Tuesday of a woman robbing her mother by gunpoint, and a residence being damaged by gunfire in the early hours of the morning.

A report from the APD said officers responded to the 600 block of West Residence Avenue shortly after 9:15 a.m. in reference to the armed robbery which occurred in the 1000 block of South Monroe Street. Contact was made with the victim, who stated her daughter, Antavius Wilcox, robbed her while having a small black handgun in her possession and pointing it at her.

The victim said her daughter contacted her earlier in the morning and said she needed money, later meeting her on South Monroe Street. The report said that, when she approached a smoke gray Toyota Corolla with an unknown Alabama tag and no hubcaps, she pulled something out of her pocket.

The mother said when she arrived at the vehicle to give Wilcox the money, the daughter demanded all of her mother’s money and showed her a black handgun.

“(The victim) stated she thought Antavius was playing, and told her to stop playing,” the narrative in the police report said. “(The victim) then stated that Antavius jumped out the car, pointed the gun at her, and said ‘Give me the money, Ma.’”

The report said Wilcox’s mother gave the money to her, and the daughter jumped into the car and sped away. The victim had just cashed her insurance check and had an undisclosed amount of money with her.

A witness who was in the car with the mother confirmed the victim’s account. The report said a lookout was placed on the vehicle and suspect by radio.

A report available from the APD on an aggravated assault said officers responded in normal mode to the 1200 block of West Highland Avenue at around 8:15 a.m. Contact was made with one of the victims, who stated he was getting ready for work at around 4-5 a.m. when he heard a loud noise.

“(The victim) stated that he thought the noise came from something falling inside the residence or his roommate,” the report’s narrative said. “(He) advised that he continued to get ready for work. (He said) that he heard his wife screaming that someone was shooting outside and he exited the bathroom to discover that someone had shot up their residence.”

The victim said there were a total of four people in the residence when this occurred — his wife, their roommate and their son. He said he did not contact the police when the shooting occurred because he had to go to work, and that he does not know who would have done it.

Officers spoke with the victim’s wife, who said she did not know the exact time frame of the incident, but that she was awakened from her sleep by what sounded like three gunshots. She said she started screaming to her husband, and he walked into the living room and discovered two bullet holes in the wall of their residence.

“(The wife) stated that her husband is a former Rattler gang member, but he is no longer a participant of any gang activity,” the report said.

The roommate said she heard six gunshots which seemed to be very close to her bedroom window. She said she did not know if the gunshots were directed towards their home or if someone was just shooting outside in general.

She also said she did not hear any vehicles speed off after the gunshots stopped, so the person was possibly on foot.

The reports from the two incidents said the cases are active and were forwarded to investigators.
