ALBANY — Jeremy Miller, a 22-year-old New Jersey man, is being treated at the hospital for an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound after initially claiming that he was shot in the leg while walking on West Oglethorpe Boulevard, according to the Albany Police Department.
Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said officers received a call at 11:57 a.m. from officials at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital about a man arriving at the emergency center with a gunshot wound to a thigh.
“The victim stated that it happened while he was walking in the area near the Townhouse Motel located at 701 West Oglethorpe Boulevard,” Banks said.
Around 2:27 p.m., however, Banks said it had been determined that Miller accidentally shot himself at a different location.
“The incident occurred at 422 West Oglethorpe Boulevard at the Days Inn in room 601,” Banks said in the update. “Jeremy Miller, age 22, from New Jersey, shot himself in the leg while cleaning his gun inside. Miller remains in the hospital at this time. This incident remains under investigation.”
