ALBANY — The Albany Police Department announced Thursday afternoon that warrants had been issued for the arrest of a second individual involved in the recent animal cruelty case brought against former Albany Humane Society Director Andrea Sartiano.
“Today the Albany Police Department has issued warrants for the arrest of a second person, Michael Mackey, 27, in the animal cruelty investigation at the Albany Humane Society,” APD spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said in a news release. “Mackey is wanted in connection to the commission of aggravated animal cruelty.”
According to officials, the investigation began after a witness came forward to the Albany Police Department alleging that Sartiano had instructed employees to “break a kitten’s neck.”
Banks said after allegations in the case were filed, an investigation by APD began.
Sartiano was interviewed with her attorney present Wednesday, and she was subsequently charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, Banks confirmed.
“Officers are currently searching for Mr. Mackey based on that warrant,” Banks said.
Anyone with information on the location of Mackey is asked to call the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100 or Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS (8477).
