ALBANY — The Albany Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon that two individuals, a man and his girlfriend, had been arrested on theft charges in connection to an incident that took place earlier this month at the home of the man’s father.
Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said Alex Donaldson, 45, and Kristi Truluck, 40, were arrested Tuesday at Aspire Rehabilitation and Substance Center on West 11th Avenue and taken to the Dougherty County Jail.
A report from the APD said officers responded at 5:43 p.m. on Oct. 1 to 2210 Chapman Drive regarding a residential burglary. Contact was made with Herman Donaldson, who said he was admitted to the hospital on the morning of Sept. 28 and had left his home secure.
When he returned home, a 46-inch TV was missing, some gun boxes had been opened and scattered in his bedroom, and eight pistols and two shotguns — which had a combined value of $3,856 — had been taken from a bedroom closet. A six-piece DeWalt tool bag and some tools with a value of $250 also were missing, the report said.
Police said the homeowner said his son, who lives at the house on occasion, was the only other person with keys to it. By the time the father got home, Alex Donaldson was already at an unknown hospital in Warner Robins, the report said.
The report said contact was made with Herman Donaldson’s daughter, who told police her brother said he took the tools and TV in order to admit himself into the hospital. She said he took the items to Georgia Loan and Pawn on Stuart Avenue, and she was able to provide a receipt from the store dated Sept. 22, which was before the father went into the hospital.
The receipt showed Truluck to be the customer, who the daughter said would sometimes get the keys from her brother in order to retrieve items for him, police said.
Jail records indicate Alex Donaldson and Truluck were still at the jail Wednesday afternoon. Alex Donaldson is being charged with felony theft by taking after allegations he was stealing handguns and other property from his father before giving the items to Truluck to pawn for him.
Truluck is being charged with three counts of misdemeanor theft by deception and one count of felony theft by receiving stolen property. Banks said she pawned items that belonged to Herman Donaldson at several pawn shops in the city.
Truluck was being held on a $8,000 bond, while Alex Donaldson remained unbondable, jail records said Wednesday.
