ALBANY — While multiple health care providers are looking to gain privileges to practice at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, hundreds more are seeking their two-year reappointment, a Professional Affairs Committee credentials report from the hospital said.

Drs. Natravis Cox and Amitabh Kumar are coming into Phoebe Gastroenterology — with Cox being brought in on a locum tenens basis, meaning that Cox is being brought in to fill in for someone else.

Dr. Angela McDowell is coming into Southwest Georgia OB-GYN, while radiologist Dr. Michael Hugh Parker is seeking telemedicine privileges, the report said.

Several advanced practice provider, or affiliate staff, applicants are looking to be onboarded at Phoebe under the required physician sponsorship. They are nurse practitioner Yarvarious Standley under Dr. Clay Thomas, certified surgical technologist Kayla Deck for Dr. Henry Barnard, nurse practitioner Kelly McCarthy under Dr. Khaja Mohammed, certified surgical technologist Jessica Pittman for Dr. Clifton Fay, nurse practitioner Abigail Cobb under Dr. Mark Cohen, certified registered nurse anesthetist Lonnie Bass for Dr. Richard Bowe, registered nurse Zhanna Mostava-Fagin under Dr. Mark Wolgin and certified nurse midwife Michele Holzman for Dr. J. Paul Payne, the report said.

The report said the onboarding of Holzman is pending a license to practice in Georgia.

Privilege renewals of Phoebe providers are done in two-year cycles, and those undergoing that process on a given year are considered for reappointment all at once. They include active staff, consulting staff, telemedicine staff, locum tenens staff and providers who have privileges in more than one department.

The physicians seeking reappointment represent those in adult critical care, anesthesiology, family medicine, pathology, obstetrics and gynecology, emergency medicine, pediatrics, radiology, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, oral surgery and dentistry, vascular and cardiovascular, otolaryngology and wound care. In all, 156 physicians have expressed interest in renewing their privileges.

At the same time, 110 advance practice providers are seeking reappointment. They are from the specialties of anesthesiology, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, critical care, family medicine, general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, cardio/thoracic/vascular surgery, plastic surgery, urology, otolaryngology and oral surgery and dentistry.

The report showed 40 providers who resigned at reappointment, relocated, are allowing their privileges to expire or provided services that are no longer needed. Thirty-two of them are those who are resigning at reappointment effective Jan. 31 — 19 with locum tenens status and seven who are radiologists working in telemedicine.

The report said two physicians, OB/GYN Dr. Brandon Seagle and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Colby Fagin, have completed the required proctored cases for robotics surgery.

The credentials report was presented to the Professional Affairs Committee on Monday and will now move to the full hospital board for final approval. Before then, it was considered by Phoebe’s Credentials Committee on Nov. 26 and the Medical Executive Committee on Dec. 4.
